LUBBOCK, Texas (September 29, 2010) – Lacy Burress stopped all five Oklahoma Christian University shots on goal for her third shutout of the season and Lubbock Christian University opened up Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 win Wednesday afternoon at LCU Soccer Field.
Lubbock Christian struck early with Peta-Gaye Soman booting in her ninth goal of the season. It was scored 14:42 into the game and assisted by Misty Sides. The Lady Chaps had an ample amount of opportunities to extend the lead in the first half but they could not capitalize on some chances in close range. They were also whistled for seven offsides infractions. Oklahoma Christian was unable to get an equalizer early in the second half and LCU finally pulled away. Soman streaked toward the left side of the goal and then fed a pass to a wide-open Esther Ruiz, who had no problem slamming in her second goal of the season. The goal came with 22:15 remaining in regulation. Just 51 seconds later, Priscilla Brannon placed a bouncer towards the goal and the ball was juggled by OC goalkeeper Chelsie Flagg as it bounced over her head. Once she gathered control of the ball, she was standing inside her own goal and the goal was awarded to Brannon for her third of the season. Sides collected her second assist of the game on the goal.
LCU out-shot the Lady Eagles 17-10, with a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Ruiz and Soman combined for five of the seven shots on goal for LCU. The win places LCU with a 7-1-0 record overall and 1-0 in the SAC. OC fell to 1-5-1 overall and 0-1 in conference. The Lady Chaps return to action Saturday at 11 a.m. playing at Mid-America Christian University.
