LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – The Lubbock High Coach who was cleared of marijuana charges by a grand jury should be able to go back to work sometime next week. Lubbock ISD Superintendent Karen Garza said Friday that Trent Nickerson, 23, was still on paid leave Friday.
Last month firefighters found were called to a home that Nickerson shared with a roommate and after putting out a small fire they discovered marijuana.
A grand jury this week indicted the room mate and cleared Nickerson. But in the meantime Coach Nickerson was placed on paid leave by the school district.
Gaza was not totally certain but she says she believes that Nickerson will be moved from "paid leave" to "on duty" in time for the next six week period on the Lubbock ISD calendar, which would be Monday October 4th.
Nickerson said in a written statement Wednesday that he is innocent and the charges against him were a "nightmare".
