LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Born August 31, 1981 in Houston, Texas, Plenette Pierson, a 6-2 forward/center played high school basketball for Kingwood High School before Pierson committed to Tech in 1999. While at Texas Tech Pierson started 68 of 69 games, scoring 978 points during her play at Tech, that's an average of 14.2 a game. Pierson racked up several awards at Tech her junior year when she only played in four games before sitting out rest of season. She graduated in 2003.
Pierson was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in the 1st round, (4th overall) out of Texas Tech in the 2003 WNBA Draft. She stayed with The Mercury till 2005. In 2006 Pierson signed with the Detroit Shock where she has won two championships, one in 2006, and one in 2008. In 2010 Pierson went to the Tulsa Shock, a (WNBA) team based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The team was founded in 1998 as the now-defunct Detroit Shock, who were one of the league's first expansion franchises. They were also the first WNBA expansion franchise to win a WNBA Championship. Currently Pierson is with the New York Liberty.
