LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) temporarily closed the 19th Street on-ramp to southbound West Loop 289 Monday. The closure will allow crews to connect the new frontage road alignment to the existing frontage road system.
Motorists traveling through the area can expect the ramp to remain closed for approximately three weeks and should expect delays. Traffic wanting to enter the southbound Loop 289 main lanes will be directed to the on-ramp just south of the 34th Street intersection.
Work at the West Loop 289, 19th Street intersection is part of a $17.6 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project. Construction began in April and is expected to improve safety and mobility through the area by removing the 19th Street clover-leaf interchange configuration and replacing it with bridges and frontage roads, and will widen West Loop from four to six lanes.
