Comptroller's Office Rejects State Budget Plan

The Comptroller's Office has rejected the state's $117.4 billion budget. Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn says the two year spending plan is nearly $186 million short. "Regrettable, I can not certify this bill. This is not about what I like or what I don't," said Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn.

The Texas Constitution requires the Legislature to pass a balanced budget. The budget will now be sent back to lawmakers and must be completed before the end of the current fiscal year on August 31st.
