The following quiz is a brief version of the one offered by American Innerspring Mattress. You can request that quiz in booklet form by ( clicking here ).
Your Bed: Give your home 10 points if you sleep alone on a double bed or share a queen size bed or larger with your partner.
Your Mattress: Give your home 20 points if your mattress is less than ten years old. Give your house 10 additional points if your mattress is less than five years old. Subtract 20 points if you have a waterbed or air bed.
Your Bedroom Window: Give your home 5 points if you live in a quiet neighborhood or have a sound window that will allow you to sleep quietly.
Your Bedroom Lights: Give your house 3 points for dark, heavy bedroom curtains and 3 points for a bedside light switch or bright lamp.
The Lights Around the House: Give your house 10 points for any kind of automatic outdoor lighting. Subtract 5 points for a stairwell without switches at both ends. Subtract 2 points for every globe-type ceiling fixture.
Your Thermostat: Give your house 5 points if the temperature stays below 75 degrees Fahrenheit at night.
The Kitchen: Give your house 2 points for every light bulb in your kitchen. Give your house 5 points if you have a lightweight pan or skillet and 5 points for a lightweight pot or saucepan.
Other: Give your house 2 points for a bedside phone, 5 points for a working smoke detector, 2 points for strong locks and 5 points for a security system.
60 or below: Your house has a Level One Retirement Rating. It could stand a tune-up.
60 - 74: Your house a Level Two Retirement Rating. Consider an upgrade.
75 - 89: Your house has a Level Three Retirement Rating. See if you can improve your score with a few simple projects or purchases.
90 or above: Your home has a level Four Retirement Rating. This means your home is ready for retirement.
