Man arrested, accused of shooting at gas balloon

HART, TX (KCBD) -

HART, TX (KCBD) - A gas balloon pilot says it's the strangest experience he's ever had. He says someone shot at his balloon while he was floating over the South Plains.

The balloon piloted by Troy Bradley dropped to about 400 feet near Hart, which is northwest of Plainview. He says that's when someone in a pickup truck starting shooting at him.

The truck drove off, but he wasn't able to hide from Bradley who had a bird's eye view and led Swisher County Sheriff's Deputies to a suspect. According to KRQE television in Albuquerque, Monday officials identified the suspected shooter as Joe Moya.

It's not clear what charge he'll face, but the sheriff's department and the Federal Aviation Administration are both investigating. The pilot was not hurt.

A gas balloon is similar to a hot air balloon in many ways but it's capable of longer flights.
