Balanced Budget for Texas

Texas Comptroller Carol Keeton Strayhorn managed to certify the state's 117-point-four billion dollar two-year budget. Yesterday, Strayhorn decided the budget plan was nearly 186 million dollars short. The solution was that Governor Rick Perry veto'd two bills. That slashed 212-million dollars from the budget.

"We accomplished this additional cut without adversely affecting any vital services and this cut is coming out of my own agency's appropriations." said Carol Keeton Strayhorn, Texas Comptroller.

Today's certification avoids a potential constitutional battle with the Governor and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, who was ready to sue the Comptroller.
