Pedestrian seriously injured after hit by a driver in a pick-up truck

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A 51-year-old woman pedestrian was rushed to UMC with very serious head injuries Wednesday night after she was hit by a driver in a pick-up truck.

Lubbock Police say just before 9:00, 67-year-old Jerry Martin was driving a 2010 white F-150 south on Quaker avenue. Martin turned left onto the Loop 289 access road at the same time the woman was crossing the street.

Police are waiting to release the woman's name until her family is notified. Police say the pedestrian did not use the cross-walk to cross the street. Traffic was being diverted Wednesday night as police continued to investigate the scene.

Lubbock Police Captain Scott Hudgens says it is still too early to say whether or not charges will be filed against the driver.

"We are still going to have to determine through the investigation the placement of the vehicle and the placement of the pedestrian at the time of the accident," said Hudgens.

Martin and his passengers were not injured.

    The Slaton Fire Department has confirmed to KCBD they responded to a mobile home fire in southeast Lubbock around 1:30 Friday morning. Buffalo Springs and Woodrow also responded to the scene. The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office says they will provide more information on the incident at 8:00 am.
