LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Friday morning motorcycle crash take the life of a 48-year-old Lubbock Power and Light employee. It happened at the intersection of 34th Street and Avenue Q.
Vance Bolingm 48m was on his way to work downtown around 7:15 a.m. when his motorcycle collided with a Chevy Avalanche in the middle of the intersection.
Accident Investigators were called to the scene. Police say the driver of the Avalanche, 25-year-old Angela Rodriguez was heading south bound on Avenue Q. She was making a left turn to go east onto 34th Street. Boling was headed north on Avenue Q.
"Initial witness accounts say the avalanche was turning on a green arrow but we are going to determine the actual state of the lights at the time," said Captain Scott Hudgens with the Lubbock Police Department.
Boling was taken to University Medical Center where he died. Police say he was not wearing a helmet. EMS took Rodriguez to Covenant Medical Center with minor injuries.
Lights at the intersection had been blinking, but were working properly at the time of the accident.
LP&L tells KCBD NewsChannel 11 that Boling worked in the alleys across the city for 24 years and was their lead meter reader. They will have counselors available for employees this afternoon and say they have lost a part of their family in this tragic accident.
A total of four people have died due to motorcycle accidents this week.
Lubbock Police continue to investigate Tuesday's fatal accident to determine if charges will be filed against the driver who hit the motorcycle. The occupants of the motorcycle, Richard Bagwell, 49, and Christy Winters, 41, died at University Medical Center from injuries suffered from the accident. Police say the motorcycle was heading north on University and an SUV, driven by Candice Fox, 24, was heading south trying to turn and failed to yield.
