Sheriff: Rustic Range fire appears to be an accident

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock County Sheriff says a weekend blaze near Buffalo Springs Lake appears to be an accident.

Flames erupted near the Rustic Range shooting range around 2 p.m. Saturday. Employees at the range say it may have been sparked by a tracer bullet, a bullet that ignites after it is fired so you can see it with the naked eye.

It took fifty firefighters from six departments to douse the flames that spread across about 60 acres. Smoke from the fire forced officials to shut down county road 400 near the caynon area.

Crews contained the fire shortly before 6 p.m. but stayed on the scene for a few hours to put out hot spots.
