Citizens Group Halfway Through Budget Reviews

Core, needs, and wants. That is how the City of Lubbock has categorized the budget for the coming fiscal year.

Core departments represent essential services such as fire and police. Needs are the departments supporting Core, such as accounting and fleet services. And Wants are quality of life services, such as drainage and vector control.

Interim City Manager, Tommy Gonzalez, says a group of five Lubbock citizens is hearing the budget reviews - and they are asking the tough questions, just as the city council would.

A proposed copy of the budget will be presented to the council in the coming weeks. Then once the council has made its changes, the public will have an opportunity to make comments at a public hearing in September.

The new budget will go into effect October 1st.
