Texas lawmakers are set to redraw congressional districts in a special legislative session called by Governor Rick Perry. The session begins June 30th.
On Wednesday the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce set three goals that it hopes Lubbock representatives will keep in mind as lawmakers draw the new congressional lines.
The chamber says that any redistricting plan should preserve the representation of rural Texas in congress. It should not cause west Texas to lose a representative in congress, and that it should not cause the erosion of influence of members who represent the interest of agriculture and petroleum.
A special house subcommittee will hold a hearing here in Lubbock on Thursday.
