Lubbock, TX (KCBD) - Federal and local law enforcement swarmed a former apartment complex in central Lubbock in a drug trafficking investigation Tuesday afternoon. The details are scarce, but arrests were made and drugs were seized.
Neighbor Samuel York turned on to his street from work around 12:30 p.m. and saw a lots of flashing lights. Lubbock County Sheriff's deputies, DPS, DEA agents and Border Patrol agents had taken over the front of the Sunset Square at 38th and Avenue P.
It's going to be an extended stay motel, but it is currently under renovation and is vacant. York says he has seen a lot going on there, but thought it was all construction related and if he suspected anything suspicious he would have called law enforcement. York appreciates the large presence.
"When you have children you do everything you can to protect your kids. You don't want all that stuff going on in your neighborhood. It's dangerous," said York.
As for the investigation, officials on the scene referred to the drugs they seized as a significant amount. According to our video, at least four people were taken into custody. KCBD NewsChannel 11 is told that the Border Patrol agents were called into investigate the immigration status of a few individuals.
As for York, he hopes that this is the last time authorities have to visit his neighborhood for drug related activity.
