LISD officials respond to questions about toy gun

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - After being contacted by several concerned parents, KCBD NewsChannel 11 found answers to their questions about a second grader who brought a gun inside a Lubbock elementary.

LISD Superintendent Karen Garza tell us a 7-year-old child brought a plastic toy gun to Centennial Elementary School two weeks ago. Parents tell us their concern comes from not being notified about the issue. Garza says there was not immediate threat to students.

"The administration in the school as well as our police department have responded very appropriately given the circumstances," said Dr. Karen Garza. "And again if there had been any eminent danger to students we would have taken a different course of action. However this was a plastic toy gun."

Garza says the gun was see through and there was nothing inside it.
