LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Polio is a virus that attacks the nervous system, and can cause paralysis or even death. We're lucky in this country to think polio is just part of our history. However, there are still polio epidemics in developing countries.
Today in Geneva, the World Health Organization announced what they call a breakthrough. A new vaccine is proving to be even better than the old one, and Dr. Roland Sutter said, "We've been waiting for a product that really works very well in developing countries in the worst areas for eradication, and it seems like finally we have a product that could serve this purpose.
Scientists are hoping this new vaccine will finally wipe out polio worldwide.
