The National Do Not Call list registered more than half a million phone numbers in its first 14 hours.

The Federal Trade Commission says the program's web site is getting as many as one thousand visits a second.

People who sign up this summer should see a decrease in telemarketing calls in October and this service is free of charge. You can register by calling 1-888-382-1222.
