Local Athletes Return From Special Olympic Games In Ireland

After competing in Ireland in the 2003 Special Olympic World Games, the athletes are returning home. Four of them, from the South Plains area, arrived at Lubbock International Airport Monday sporting gold and silver.

22-year-old Jonathon Sanders of Wolfforth and 21 year-old Paul Corbin of Lubbock competed in Table Tennis. Both captured silver metals. 18-year-old John Ervin and 25 year-old Stacy Newsome, both of Lubbock, competed in Gymnastics. They both won gold medals.

The four are members of team Texas that spent a week competing in games in Dublin, Ireland.
