OKLAHOMA CITY (November 3, 2010) - The Sooner Athletic Conference baseball coaches have forecast Lubbock Christian University as the top team for 2011.
The Chaparrals, coming off a regular season SAC Championship and NAIA World Series season, collected seven of 11 first-place votes to finish with 97 points. The runner-up in the poll is defending SAC Tournament champion Oklahoma City, which also made it to the NAIA World Series, with three first-place votes and 93 points.
"It's an honor to be picked atop a tough conference like Sooner Athletic Conference," said LCU Coach Nathan Blackwood. "However, we all know that this conference is wide open and there are several teams who are capable of finishing on top. In fact, it will probably come down to the last week of the season. What's important is where you finish, not where you start."
Wayland Baptist finished third with 81 points and the remaining first-place vote.
Oklahoma Baptist is fourth in the poll at 66, followed by Northwestern Oklahoma State at 61, Southern Nazarene at 57, Rogers State at 54, USAO at 38, Oklahoma Christian at 27, Mid-America Christian at 19 and St.
