Dispute over delays on Lubbock Co. Jail ends up in court

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A dispute over delays in the opening the Lubbock County Detention Center has now ended up in court. The contractor hired by the county had to pay for every day the opening was delayed.

They're blaming that on a sub contractor in charge of security, saying they're responsible for the delay and say they should pay for it.  According to the lawsuit, filed by W.G. Yates and Sons Construction Company, the county charged Yates nearly $2-million for the delay.

Due to an agreement with the sub-contractor, Yates says the sub-contractor should be responsible for that cost.  The sub-contractor, however, claims that the county is responsible for some of delay.

Now, Yates is asking a judge to decide. By naming Lubbock County in the suit, Yates can have the case heard by a State District Court.
