Couple riding around world to raise awareness about charity

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A couple from England arrived on the South Plains Thursday on a bicycle built for two.  Huw and Carolyn Thomas are on 10,000 mile ride around the world to raise awareness about Shelter Box.

It's a disaster relief charity, based in England. "It's a really simple idea, shelter in a box for people who've lost everything," Huw said.

The boxes contain emergency supplies for a family of ten and include tents, blankets, cooking stoves, and water containers.

The Thomases started their trip in Vancouver in August. Their North American trip will take them to Tampa, and they'll eventually end up in Australia and Europe, taking time to speak at schools and other events on their way.

KCBD asked how they liked Texas.  "It's very sunny. I'm not sure it would be sunny in England now in November, so we're really appreciating the sunshine," Carolyn said.

The Thomases will be at the Science Spectrum on Saturday.  (Click Here) to learn more about their trip.
