Lubbock's Superstar Comes Home

Eight months ago Brian Lee became a household name across America as he sang in front of millions of viewers on the Today Show Superstar contest. Lee, a Lubbock native, finished third. But since then, his music career has taken off. This weekend he's playing right here in his home town, as part of the 4th on Broadway celebration.

He sang in front of millions, confidently, even though the 80's pop songs he drew weren't quite his style. Since his appearance on the Today Show, he's performed all over Texas, original songs, with his own style.

"It's been great, gosh, ever since the concert I've been out on the road quite a bit, I've got a booking agent that's been booking me all over Texas. I've been playing as much as I can and we cut an album in February of this year. It's all original material, all songs that I've written and that was a lot of fun," said Brian Lee.

His cd is now getting play time on radio stations in the Metroplex. "I didn't know it was going to be on. I was just driving down the road between Ft Worth and Dallas listening to one of the country stations and it just came on and I about had a wreck so that was a pretty cool experience," said Brian.

The first cut on Brian's album, 84, is a tribute to Lubbock. It's about the great music that has come from the Hub City and the long road, Highway 84, that it takes to get there.

"Right now I'm just trying to get my name out there and do what I do best. You know a lot of people know me from the today show but that wasn't really who I am as an artist cause I don't sing 80's pop songs every week, so it's fun to get out and do my thing as an artist and a writer", Lee said.

Brian says his dream would be to one day sing in front of thousands of people that are singing along with his songs, but for now he's looking forward to singing on stage in his home town.

"I'm just really excited, it's neat to get to do something in your hometown, in front of people that knew you when you were running around these streets causing trouble so I think it will be neat," Lee said.

The live concert at Mackenzie Park is scheduled to begin at 7:30 Friday night. Brian Lee should take the stage just after 8:00.
