Food for Thought Report 7.3

We start off with a bang and a perfect score at JC's Burritos at 6313 19th Street. Zero critical violations makes them a Food for Thought Top Performer, and that's really nothing new.

"This is our fourth Top Performer and we're very proud of it!" Owner Rachel Roberts says her friendly and casual restaurant specializes in burritos, with some of the most popular being the breakfast burritos and one named after a certain Texas Tech Coach.

Roberts says everyone pitching in keeps things running the right way for their customers. "We work as a team and the girls and the people that work here pretty much know what I like and how I like things done and cleanliness is our number one, number one thing."

Next it's over to South Plains Mall where we find two more Top Performers. McDonald's at 6002 Slide Road is a perfect scoring restaurant this week.

Tropic Sun Fruit and Nuts, at the same address is another place where inspectors found zero critical violations.

The only Low Performer this time is Linda's Cafe at 6201 19th St. where four critical violations were found.

  • Fried rice was found cooling at room temperature.
  • Pork was found at 61 degrees, fish was found inside the microwave at 130 degrees, and chicken was found at 71 degrees. Hot foods must be kept at 140 degrees or hotter.
  • Ready to eat food items were found with no date mark.
  • A hand washing sink was out of soap.

When NewsChannel 11 called Linda's, a staff member there told me there was no manager available for comment. The inspection report shows all critical violations were corrected on site.
