Name released in Castro County homicide

CASTRO COUNTY, TX (KCBD) – The name has been released for a man found dead in what officials are calling a homicide in Castro County.

According to the Castro County Sheriff's Office, the man is 28-year-old Jared Cade Kelley from Lubbock. Kelley died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The investigation began early Tuesday morning after a man in Lubbock called 911 to report that he killed someone in Castro County. Then a search began to find the person that was killed.

A DPS helicopter crew found Kelley's body around 10 a.m. Tuesday just outside of Dodd, which is 75 miles from Lubbock. The person that called 911 said that he shot the man during a hunting trip after he and his brother felt threatened.

The Castro County Sheriff's Office tells KCBD NewsChannel 11 the man who called 911 and his brother admitted to using drugs at the time of the shooting. The two men are considered persons of interest and are being questioned.

Reports show that both men have been arrested on unrelated charges by the Lubbock Police Department. Officials say the case is ongoing and is still being investigated.
