Two separate rollover accidents occurred early Saturday morning, and both were caused by drowsy driving, according to DPS Corporal John Gonzalez.
The first rollover happened at about 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning on I-27 just south of Abernathy. DPS says 76 year-old Lorena Tucker of Amarillo fell asleep at the wheel, ran off the road, over-corrected, and flipped the 2003 Toyota she was driving. Her passenger 72 year-old J.R. Tucker, also of Amarillo, died in the accident. He was not wearing a seat belt. Lorena is in satisfactory condition at UMC.
Another one vehicle rollover happened around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Sylvia Rio was driving towards Lubbock on the Slaton Highway near Posey when she fell asleep. The 2003 Dodge Ram pickup she was driving flipped two times. The three children and two adults, all from Lubbock, were wearing seat belts and were transported to UMC with minor injuries.
