TxDOT project to make major improvements to east 19th Street

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to begin a project that will make more than $9.5 million of improvements to US 62 (east 19th Street) in the city of Lubbock. The project is being funded through Proposition 12 bonds.

Beginning November 15, crews from The Lane Construction Corp. will begin work to rehabilitate more than three miles of east 19th Street said Stevan Perez, P.E., Littlefield Area engineer overseeing the project.

TxDOT says the project will make improvements to the pavement and they say will enhance the overall safety of the roadway. They will install up-to-date lighting, upgrade guardrail and ADA elements, make drainage improvements and install solar powered flashing beacons at the Broadway intersection.

Crews will begin with minor construction work placing barricades and traffic barrels, and reducing traffic to one lane in each direction, from Avenue A to Martin Luther King (MLK) Boulevard, Perez said, with major construction on the project scheduled to begin after the Thanksgiving holiday.

The project's completion date is scheduled for late (December) 2011.
