CASTRO COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - A murder warrant has been issued for one of two men considered persons of interest in the Castro County shooting death of 28-year-old Jared Kelley.
Serrillo Cameron Deleon, 24, of Lubbock is currently in the Lubbock County Jail on an unrelated charge. A warrant has been issued for Deleon for the murder of Kelley. His bond has been set at $100,000.
The investigation continues with possible charges against Monico Elias Deleon, 23, of Lubbock who is also in the Lubbock County Jail on unrelated charges. He is being investigated as a person of interest in the murder.
According to the Castro County Sheriff's Office, Kelley died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The homicide investigation began last Tuesday morning after a man in Lubbock called 911 to report that he killed someone in Castro County. A DPS helicopter crew found Kelley's body around 10 a.m. Tuesday just outside of Dodd, which is 75 miles from Lubbock. According to Castro County officials the man said he shot Kelley during a hunting trip after he and his brother felt threatened and that he and his brother admitted to using drugs at the time of the shooting.
Funeral services for Kelley were held this past Saturday at Indiana Baptist Church in Lubbock.
