The Texas House rejected a Democratic proposal to keep the existing boundaries for the state's 32 congressional districts.

The Republican party is fighting for a grip on the Texas congressional delegation. Democrats now hold a 17 to 15 advantage.

The current lines were drawn by federal judges after the 2001 Texas legislature never got the job done. Republicans say existing boundaries don't reflect the state's voting patterns.
