Home Ownership Available to Low Income Families

For some of Lubbock's low income families it just got easier to own a home in Lubbock.

The Section-8 housing program already provides rent subsidies to families in the form of vouchers. Now, in an effort to help remove families from government assistance, Section-8 is providing an opportunity for families to get into a home they can call their own.

"It gives them a chance to turn over that voucher into home ownership," said Carmen Martinez, Resident Initiative Administrator, Lubbock Housing Authority. "We'll still assist them with the payments, but it will go to a mortgage instead of rent."

Applicants will be evaluated based on income level and family size. Those approved will be placed on a one-to-two year waiting list. Assistance will be provided through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

For more information, contact Carmen Martinez at the Lubbock's Housing Authority. The number is (806) 762-1191 extension 207.
