A 15-month-old baby who was taken from University Medical Center is in the hands of the Child Protective Services. Lubbock police say it was the father who did it.
Police aren't giving out names, but did say the father, who's from Odessa, took the baby from UMC at two on Tuesday afternoon. Police say the mother tried to stop him, but the suspect managed to leave anyway with the baby.
The mother didn't make a big scene, but did report to nurses her baby was taken. UMC Spokesman Greg Bruce says they announced a 'Code Pink' warning over the loud speakers in the hospital, telling security to secure the building. But the suspect was gone.
However, law agencies in Gaines County heard the suspect was heading their way and spotted the vehicle and pulled it over in Seagraves about one hour later.
"I do want to say we are very proud of our procedures. And do want to extend a thanks to the Lubbock police department and the other law agencies that were involved. We make sure the best security is provided to our patients," Bruce said during a news conference.
The baby was airlifted to UMC back on July 6th from a near drowning incident. KWES NBC in Midland say police are investigating that incident. But as far as the father taking the baby, police say no arrests were made. Because they're trying to figure out who has custody of the child first.
