LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Lubbock Christian University announced Thursday that Condoleezza Rice will speak at next year's benefit dinner.
LCU President Ken Jones says the university appreciates Rice's academic background and her service to the country. In the past, LCU has hosted Colin Powell and former President George W. Bush for the benefit dinner series.
Jones says they have helped to increase the credibility of the university but he says it also benefits the community as a whole.
"When we go through a list of speakers, a list of potential speakers, we're very interested in their background, what they have to bring to the City of Lubbock, that we do not normally have," said Jones. "They've been an avenue in which we've been able to serve the city of Lubbock. The city of Lubbock, our friends have been really good to us; this is a way for us to give back to them."
The dinner is scheduled for September of 2011 at the Civic Center. Tickets are $100 each, and sponsorships start at $1,000 per table. The event will be at the Civic Center on September 27th.
