During their latest round of inspections, health inspectors made stops at dozens of restaurants and at the movies, but they weren't taking in the films. As KCBD NewsChannel 11's Christy Moreland tells us, they were making sure those places are safe for you and your family just like your favorite restaurants.
Eddie's Barbeque at 1324 E. 50th street is a multiple repeat top performer. "I want it to be clean every time, anytime - but anytime they come in and y'all give me a top performer - I love it," Eddie DeLavan, owner of Eddie's, says.
And while this hidden treasure is a little tucked away it's definitely worth the drive."I think I've got the best BBQ in Lubbock, my prices are reasonable, ambiance is great; it's a pit BBQ, pit smoked, so I think that's unique. I don't think you find that much anymore. I have sliced beef, sausage, ribs, pork loin, and I also make a mean frito pie."
Eddie says it takes his entire team to keep the kitchen clean. And while they're only open for lunch during the weekday you can always rent out the place or, "We're kicking around the idea of opening one night a week for those who can't make it at lunch. But that's still in the 'kicking it around' phase."
Get the door, this next restaurant is once again delivering a perfect score. Domino's Pizza at 1708 Parkway Dr. is a repeat top performer. Our next stop also brings perfection wherever they go. Ambrosia Catering at 4208 Boston aims to please with zero violations. From tubs of popcorn to pre-packaged goodies, Tinsel Town USA at 2535 82nd is a star when it comes to cleanliness.
Now to this week's only low performer. Health inspectors cited Golden Field Buffet at 7307 University with seven critical violations.
* Cold food was not 41 degrees or below.
* A scrub pad was in the hand wash sink.
* The soap dispenser at the sink did not work.
* A dented can was stored with usable cans.
* A toxic item was not labeled.
* The dish washer was not sanitizing.
* There was mold in the ice machine.
Management was not available to comment when we contacted the restaurant. The report shows all violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
