At least two suspected members of a counterfeit check ring are in jail thanks to a mindful clerk.
It happened last month, at the Lowe's Supermarket in Abernathy. The clerk asked for identification and a thumbprint of a woman cashing a payroll check. It was the thumbprint that later confirmed her identity.
Police say Charmaine Hines of Dallas and a companion hit grocery stores in at least three states. Both are now jailed in Hobart, Oklahoma, charged with forgery, counterfeiting, and evading authorities.
