LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A Lubbock man is dead and another is in the hospital after a single car accident early Saturday morning around 1:30 a.m. The accident happened near I-27 and South Loop.
Two days after Thanksgiving family and friends are mourning the death of Dusty Stanford, 23. Lubbock police say Stanford was driving Southwest on the interstate flyover and somehow ended up on the bottom of the flyover. According the accident report, police say Stanford failed to control his speed and hit the guardrail and kept traveling southwest down the embankment. That's when police say he hit the other two guardrails at the bottom and flipped his truck.
LPD police reports indicate Stanford was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck. The report also states he died instantly. Stanford's passenger, Ruben Sosa, 36, got out of the truck and ran to the Red Roof Inn to get help.
Lubbock police are still investigating the accident.
Update: Sosa was released from University Medical Center Sunday after he suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
