LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Effective Tuesday (Nov 30th), Lubbock and San Angelo locations of Zoo-Kini's are closed. The parent company, Zoo-Koncepts LLC, will be taken into bankruptcy by a court appointed Receivership Trustee in the well-known Benny Judah case.
Judah is serving 25 years in prison for charges related to a Ponzi scheme with 250 or so victims, primarily from the Lubbock area.
The Abilene location of Zoo-Kini's will remain open "until it can be sold," the Receiver says in a notice to employees customers and creditors. The Receiver also says that "Mr. Rodney Warren, the Lubbock-area Sonic Drive-In franchisee, has signed a contract to buy the Abilene location.
Most of Judah's other assets including Moose McGoo's, Harrigans, Las Brisas, The Falls and other businesses have already been sold in an effort to partially reimburse victims of the Ponzi scheme. At last check, the Receiver had recovered enough money to pay back victims 17% of their original investments, with the hope of recovering more as time goes on.
