LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A teen charged in a Lubbock murder will now be tried as an adult.
Jakey Ayers, 16, is charged in the May shooting death of Marcus Lewis. A judge decided on Thursday to transfer Ayers from juvenile court to criminal court.
A probation officer told the judge the juvenile system could not offer Ayers what he needed for rehabilitation.
Ayers' attorney told the judge his client has been on his own and functions below a 10th grade level. Deputies escorted Ayers to the Lubbock County Detention Center.
His bond is now set at $500,000.
