A twin engine plane crash landed in a field next to a runway at Lubbock International Airport just after 4:00 Tuesday afternoon. Aviation Director Mark Earle tells NewsChannel 11 that the Piper Navajo was taking off from LIA on its way to Denver, Colorado.
After takeoff, the pilot immediately radioed engine trouble, so he turned around and tried to land on the runway, but Earle says the plane's landing gear did not come down and the plane was forced to land in the field next to the runway.
It eventually skidded to a stop. There were two passengers on board along with the pilot. Earle says they all escaped unharmed.
