LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - KCBD NewsChannel 11 has learned of an out-of-court settlement between City Hall and Texas Tech Hockey. In November, the City reached an agreement with former Coach Paul Fiorini for $20,000. The City claimed that the coach had not paid rent and electric bills for use of the Municipal Coliseum.

The hockey team was evicted in December 2008, and no longer plays in Lubbock.

The city says the hockey team was not incorporated so it ends up being the coach who is personally responsible for the money.  Fiorini says the money came from the sale of an ice plant and a zamboni (ice smoothing machine).

The Tech hockey club functioned as a student organization, and not part of the athletic department.  Just in the last week or so the money was paid and City Council was given official word on the settlement.

The city originally sued for nearly $34,000.
