Train and semi collide in Garza Co.; train knocked off tracks

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A train crashes into a semi in Garza County, and amazingly no one was seriously injured. The crash happened near Lake Alan Henry and just Southeast of Justiceburg.

DPS investigators tell us, just as the sun was rising Sunday morning the 18-wheeler, carrying an oversized caterpillar water truck, drove over the railroad at the intersection of U.S. 84 and FM 1269 and collided with the train.

The driver of the truck, 63-year-old Allan Binkley of Arizona, was treated at the scene. The impact knocked two locomotives off the track and one was completely on its side. The engineer of the Burlington Northern train, Daniel Hinds of New Mexico, was taken to a hospital in Snyder where he was treated and released.

A three-mile portion of FM 1269 from U.S. 84 south to Fluvanna was closed so crews could clean up the debris, but has since reopened. The Texas Department of Safety is still investigating the crash.
