SLATON, TX (KCBD) - The Slaton Police Chief is now on 90-days probation and on paid administrative leave because of time sheet discrepancies. The Slaton City Manager and City Council voted unanimously on Monday to take action against Police Chief Royce Goodson. Goodson has served the community of Slaton for nearly three years.

Monday's meeting mostly centered on how Goodson improperly filled out time sheets; mainly concerning comp time and vacation time. Newly elected City Administrator Mike Lamberson and Mayor England asked the majority of the questions throughout the meeting that lasted an hour and a half. Even though Lamberson originally placed Goodson on leave December 2nd, he wanted to wait until discussing the issues with the rest of the council before any further action was taken.

Slaton Mayor D.W. Englund said most of it had to do with issues on Goodson's time sheet. Mayor Englund told KCBD NewsChannel 11 if the time factors are not accurate on the time sheet, it appears that the employer is being manipulated. He said if the time sheet is not filled out right, the employer is going to have some issues with the employee. Lamberson claims Goodson wrote down regular hours when they should have been vacation hours. He also says Goodson filed for compensation time when he shouldn't have, giving him additional hours. "When he turns in the comp time, if he turns in the 8 hours, it comes up as 12 hours," said Mayor Englund.

During the meeting on Monday, Mayor Englund also said Goodson and city leaders need to communicate more efficiently. He claims he wasn't contacted during the emergency floods over the July 4th weekend.

Goodson did not want to go on camera but said in the meeting that he never meant to deceive the city and planned to inform Lamberson about the error. Along with the 90 days of probation, Goodson must meet with Lamberson once a week and get any vacation time approved directly. The city council also took away the 42 hours of comp time Goodson had left.
