The Lamesa Nurse That Wouldn't Retire

Our Country Doc this time is really a nurse.

Ellie Wilson has been nursing for 54 years, 32 of them in Lamesa, Texas. A lot of folks around town always think of her as the school nurse because she cared for all the sick kids at school for 18 years.

Ellie Wilson is far from a retired nurse. Right now, she is still helping part-time in surgery when they need her at Medical Arts Hospital in Lamesa.

She gets tickled when she runs into parents who say that she was in the delivery room when their children were born. But some of her fondest memories are of being an elementary school nurse. Her favorite part has been watching the children grow up.

She loves people, so to be able to have been a nurse to them and then go to the school and be a nurse to their children has been a wonderful thing for her.

At age 76, Ellie is back in the emergency room now, doing what she loves most, helping the people of Lamesa.
