Police say accused robbers confessed to additional crime

HOBBS, NM (KCBD) - Hobbs Police arrested two suspects Wednesday, following an early morning armed robbery at a convenience store.  Police say the suspects also confessed to a second robbery in November.

Police responded to the Allsups at 321 N. Dal Paso in Hobbs at 1:35 a.m. Wednesday.  When officers got on scene, clerks told them that they had just been robbed at gunpoint.  The clerks also said the two suspects ran down the alley behind the store.

While searching the area, a witness told officers that he saw the two suspects and gave a description of the vehicle they were leaving in.  Officers located the vehicle at an apartment complex.  Officers learned which apartment the two may be in and contacted them.

The suspects were taken to the Hobbs Police Department for questioning.  Detectives interviewed the suspects and say they confessed robbing another Allsups at 4308 N. Grimes on November 26th

Police arrested Shelby Reeves, Jr., 19 and Xavier Silver, 17 both of Hobbs.  Reeves' bond has been set at $63,000.  He is charged with Robbery, Conspiracy and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

Silver is charged with Robbery, Conspiracy and Tampering with Evidence and is being held without bond.  Investigators say they're seeking arrest warrants for the November robbery.

Police say this arrest is an example of what happens when the community assists police by providing witness information.  Due to the assistance of a witness, these two have been arrested.  When witnesses partner with police this type of criminal activity can be stopped.
