Monterey High School students spread holiday cheer

Posted: Updated:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Approximately 400 Monterey High School students representing 25 student clubs and organizations will be spreading holiday cheer at four Lubbock ISD elementary campuses on Friday, December 10, from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m. The Monterey students will host holiday parties for the kindergarten, first-, second- and third-grade classrooms at Bean Elementary, Brown Elementary, Dupre Elementary, and Wheelock Elementary.

Rather than use school funds to provide the refreshments, games and holiday gifts, those items are underwritten by the Monterey student volunteers. Some of the funds used were donated to the Monterey student council by the Volunteer Center of Lubbock.

Monterey Principal Joe Williams said, "We are very proud of the students from Monterey High School who have volunteered to attend and help with theses holiday parties," said Monterey Principal Joe Williams. "This activity allows our students as well as the elementary students to see how community service, volunteerism and good character can help students be successful at any level."
