Felony charges filed against Morton coach

By James Clark - email

Two felony charges have been filed against Morton ISD Athletic Director and football coach Don Rives.  District Attorney Gary Goff says both charges are "Injury To A Child."  Rives was put on administrative leave earlier this week.

Goff is recommending that Rives bond be set at $5,000 per charge in order to get out of jail until his trial.  A Justice Of The Peace has signed the arrest warrant and Cochran County Sheriff Wallace Stalcup expects Rives to turn himself in voluntarily. If convicted Stalcup says Rives could face 2 to 10 years in jail per count.

Two students both came forward to KCBD NewsChannel 11 to describe how they say Rives physically assaulted them.  The Sheriff says cell phone is video is part of the evidence that he turned over to the District Attorney.
