SLATON, TX (KCBD) - KCBD NewsChannel 11 continues to follow the investigation into a weekend stabbing in Slaton.

Christopher Cearley, 26, is charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed the mother of his children, 28-year-old Gloria Flores, on her face, head, arms and chest with a serrated knife. Investigators arrested Cearley Sunday morning at a home in the 1500 block of West Garza Street.

Police say Cearley called 911 and reported the incident early Sunday morning. "He said he had stabbed his girlfriend in the head and the 911 operator said she heard a female in the background saying please don't do this we have children together."

Neighbors say Gloria escaped the attack and that's when the Scott family says Gloria approached their door. "She was knocking on it frantically, covered in blood and ringing the door bell several times," Tim Scott said.

When officers arrived they say Cearley came out of the backyard covered in blood with the knife in his hand and officers took him down at gunpoint.

Investigators say this isn't Cearley's first run in with the law. "We have dealt with him on several occasions but most of the time they were drug related," Lt. Lewis said.

Police tell us Flores' injuries are not considered life threatening. Officials at University Medical Center say that she is no longer in the hospital.

According to online jail records, Cearley's bond is set at $50,000.
