Cavazos students present gifts to family in need

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Lubbock County family receives a special surprise, just in time for the holidays.

"These kids just really brought my kids Christmas," said Amy Pierce. Amy and her three children lost their home to a fire this past October. It destroyed almost everything they had.

Tuesday morning, members of the Cavazos High Achievers Maximizing Potential or CHAMP Organization at Cavazos Middle School surprised them with $500 worth of gifts and other household items. The group develops future leaders and members say when they contacted the Red Cross to find a family in serious need of help, the Pierce's store stuck out.

"It kind of helped us out by seeing that they had some kids that needed help, and we thought if that was us, we would want help too, so we decided to help them by buying them gifts," said Angel Flores.

Pierce says she cannot thank the group enough. She says she plans to re-build on the same property.

The Cavazos students belong to an organization called . The CHAMPs selected the Pierce family after learning that they are listed among the most in need by the American Red Cross South Plains Regional Chapter.
