At a meeting Friday in the Lubbock City Council Chambers, Mayor McDougal praised Senator Robert Duncan, and Representative Delwin Jones for remaining loyal to West Texas on the issue of redistricting.
McDougal, however, expressed disappointment in Representative Carl Issets decision to support the current map.
"Carl voted against West Texas for the map that redistricts West Texas and Texas almost all the way to Fort Worth and I haven't had a chance to talk to Carl but certainly we're very disappointed in him not standing up for West Texas." said McDougal.
Several West Texas communities have joined Lubbock in a unanimous effort to oppose the state's redistricting effort. They include, Abilene, Brownwood, Big Spring, San Angelo, Colorado City, and Lamesa. In a new plan proposed by the Senate Thursday, Lubbock and Midland would remain in the same district. That contradicts the change made by the House that sparked the redistricting opposition in the first place.
