Tough economy, toned down inauguration for Perry

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Governor Rick Perry's Inauguration will be scaled back this year, with no parade, as lawmakers face a budget shortfall of at least $20 billion.

Perry and Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst will take the oath of office January 18th on the Capitol steps. The theme will be "Texas: Where opportunity still looms large."

The black-tie inauguration parties of the past will be replaced with business and cocktail attire. A spokesperson for the committee organizing the celebration says planners are putting together a very responsible way to celebrate.

The budget is still being finalized.

Meanwhile, the Governor is in Lubbock Thursday. He is hosting a book signing at Hastings at 50th and Indiana at 5:30 p.m.
