LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock County sheriff's deputies and DPS troopers surrounded and fired loud projectile at what appeared to be a large storage building in Lubbock County on Friday. As of late Friday night, details were very limited. We called the Sheriff's office and the only information we were given was that the incident near 82nd and Avenue F was not a part of training.
In our attached video, authorities can be heard telling whoever was inside to come out with their hands up. In their next attempt, a phone number was given to whoever was inside so they could communicate with authorities. Finally, they warned force would be used if no one came out.
After their attempts failed, heavily armored authorities were seen approaching the building and our video shows them fire what appeared to be gas canisters. Smoke could be seen from the top of the building and authorities could be heard coughing violently outside.
A group of 4 authorities seemed to enter the building. Minutes passed and another slightly larger group appeared to enter as well. Between 8 and 10 loud booms could be heard. After about 20 minutes, it appeared more people came from the building.
KCBD NewsChannel 11 arrived on scene shortly after 6:30 p.m. and witnessed authorities leaving around 8:10 p.m.
We don't know who was inside, if anyone was hurt, or if any arrests were made. We've left messages with the Sheriff's office and will bring you the latest as soon as it is available.
