Former City Employees Speak Out About Job Cuts

Tuesday's Lubbock City Council meeting didn't come without controversy. A last minute amendment in the meeting called for the elimination of four additional positions. Two in human resources and two budget analysts.

Shelly Goodnight is one of the budget analysts who lost her job Tuesday morning. But, she was required to attend the meeting where she then expressed her disappointment in how the situation was handled, "I truly do not appreciate y'all doing this in public. This is my job and that is in very very poor taste for you to do this in public."

According to Lubbock Mayor Marc McDougal, he thought she was told in private, "I was under the opinion that it was not handled in public."

So far, 99 city jobs have been eliminated this year. Final approval of the budget will come after a public hearing in September.
